85 Yamaha 1000 Question?
I have a 85 Yamaha 1000, I just got it on the road, new plugs were just installed. The Bike started fine, ran great. I took it for inspection and went of a 25 mile ride after inspection, well I only got about 20 miles, the bike began to sputter and I pulled over. Battery was dead, My riding partner headed home for a trailer. A good Sam, had a garage across the street, he hooked me up to a charger, and the bike fired right up.
I am wondering what would cause the battery to die while riding.
The Brake light was STUCK on the switch vibrated out of place while riding. Other than that there was on other abnormal electrical strain on the bike.

The charger and battery are both suspect. But also a bike that old may have a bare wire grounding out. My 85' FJ1100 has a weak charge as well. I installed a rebuilt alternator because the old one was dead, but she still loses charge if I don't start her at least twice a month.
These antiques are a labor of love and an exercise in patience.
